Reflections

What I learnt

  • gain my knowledge in creating interactive representation of information & knowledge both theoretically and practically;
  • enhance my ability, confidence and technical skills in using multimedia technology to present information especially;
  • set up my own BLOG – an interesting and amazing experience to communicate and interact with the course tutor as well as classmates via internet. I believe it would be only my start to explore this platform as a communication channel;
  • work in close co-operation with teams will result better achievement with less efforts;
  • preparation work such as making storyboard is very important element in producing interactive presentations because it will save time and efforts but result better;
  • I am now planning to apply this knowledge and skills to improve my presentation in the user education program in my workplace and hoping for to better responses from our library users. Attending the course has been a great asset in my life and to my present work.

How I learnt

  • attend face-to-face classes;
  • practice with packed tutorials on using FLASH by course tutor; I much appreciate the step by step tutorials of using FLASH; It has been a great help in accomplishing my assignments;
  • visit blogs of both the classmates and tutor; get ideas from classmates’ presentation; I like very much the designs of Kenny Tang (Travelling in Egypt); ask for solutions for problems; and leave comments on their blogs;
  • I would like to thank for those comments and suggestions on my BLOG from classmates;
  • work in a team – co-orpration efforts help much in accomplishing our assignment on schedule.

Contributions

Two comments from classmates are accepted:

  • comment on the length of my photo story, so the movie length was limited to less than two minutes;
  • comment on too much information causing handling difficulties, so the “transportation map” was deleted.

My comments to classmates’ blogs:

  • I left some comments & suggestions on blogs of classmates hoping to give some different views to their presentations;
  • I also posted a few requests to my favorite blogs for their source files for my reference and wish I can get the replies. I am now planning a user education project in my work place and going to add interactive features by using FLASH if possible.

Difficulties encountered

Most difficulties encountered are technical due to my limited knowledge of using FLASH.

  • spend so much time to learn the basics, learn from failures;
  • I and my teammate use different FLASH versions (FLASH MX & FLASH 8) and FLASH 8 files cannot be converted to MX version;
  • file size too large so unable to upload onto the public place of ILN, the presentation is being divided into two files on the blog although we got the full sent to Daniel for assessment;
  • a few photos of museums from LCSD’s website was borrowed (those embedded credits on the picture) since I haven’t got such photos in hand.

Final Project - Hong Kong Tourist Attactions

Due to the file size of both .swf and .fla is too large to be allowed uploading onto the public place of ILN (up to 20M), our final representation is thus divided into two files. Please click the following links to view ...

Part 1: Top Attractions, Museums, Heritage Tour

My Roles

Throughout the project, I share with my partner the ideas, design works and our technical skills as well.

Our project consists of 6 parts after taking into consideration of our interests on the topic, the availability of information & resources and the limited technical skills of using FLASH (both of us are fresh to this computer software). We play the equally role to share the work, 3 parts each. Because we are using different versions of FLASH (FLASH 8 & FLASH MX respectively), my partner Ronda is thus responsible to combine our individual parts into a final product. May I give my sincere thanks to her for the consolidation work.

It has been a pleasant and unforgettable learning experience for both of us to work as a team, indeed. We believe that we could not finish the project on schedule without our corporation efforts. Cheers!
